Brandon is a 17 year old Year 12 Student from Manjimup Senior High School program The Big Picture.
He came to Joblife Employment with the intention to identify and obtain a traineeship or apprenticeship in an agricultural or construction based company in the local area.
Despite Brandon’s multiple challenges in his past and current personal life he shows a level of maturity not commonly seen in people of his age. He has been working at obtaining his driver’s licence and while living with his grandmother ensures he drives at every opportunity to assist her getting around as much as possible.
Brandon helps on his Grandmother’s farm, as well as supporting her financially where he can.
An avid Collingwood Football fan, his future goal is to one day watch his team play live as he has never attended an AFL game.
He completed work experience at Shedley Wines three years ago and remembers how enjoyable and supportive the employer and workers were.
When meeting with the employer for an interview they reminisced over the experience and caught up on how Brandon had progressed over the years.
Chris Shedley, Manager and Owner of Shedley Wines was so impressed by Brandon’s maturity and sense of independence to overcome so many challenges he offered Brandon a part time Horticulture Traineeship.
Understanding the location and transportation concern Chris offered on site accommodation to Brandon during his work shifts as well as meals and transportation home if he needed.
Joblife Employment supported setting up the interview, providing Chris with information relating to traineeship conditions and processes and talked through the ongoing support which can be provided to both Brandon and Chris’s employees.
We negotiated a wage subsidy to support Brandon’s initial months of employment and employer support during this time.
As well, Joblife provided Brandon with a mobile phone to ensure safe communication for employment as he has to travel on gravel roads to and from his place of work and may also be called in for additional shifts as required on the property.
We’ll keep you up to date on his progress!
