For 20 years, Harry Olsen has struggled with a HIV diagnosis and grappled with the depression that accompanies a life-altering virus.

The 58-year-old from Perth decided to take back control of his life and move to the UK to receive innovative medical treatment. It was in the UK Harry gained experience as a Double Decker bus driver.

Harry’s time in the UK saw his Australian Disability Support Pension (DSP) revoked and he was without income upon his arrival back in Perth.

Without a clue of where to go or who to turn to, Harry made some poor choices and “because of the situation he was in, he ended up losing his driver’s license forever.” Corie Millet, the Employment Consultant in Perth North says.

Corie was at a stalemate, he had a driver who couldn’t drive. Corie says, “we tore apart his role as a driver and focused on [the] customer service side of what he used to do.”

Corie touched up the resume to highlight Harry’s transferable customer service skills. Joblife also provided interview preparation, work clothes, and travel cards to make Harry work ready. Eventually, Harry gained employment at a call centre in Perth.

Harry is loving his job at the call centre and enjoys the fast-paced environment. A call to Corie and all the Perth North team on occasion helps to de-stress from a particularly hectic day on the job. No matter how many more hurdles Harry must leap over, Joblife will be there to cheer him on.
