We’re pleased to announce that we are sponsors for the LWB Sports Challenge in Launceston tomorrow!
Life Without Barriers will hold its 9th annual Sports Challenge Day for people with disability on Friday 22 November at Rocherlea Recreation Ground (3 Archer St) from 10am – 2pm.
The Sports Challenge Day is attended by LWB disability clients and other disability services and their clients. Up to 10 teams are involved in the day’s sporting activities which include tug-o-war, 80 metre sprints, relay events and novelty events. It is a fixture on the social calendar for people with disability, with people travelling from all over Tasmania to attend.
Tony Crothers, LWB Disability Operations Manager, said the event provides an opportunity for everyone invited to participate in modified sports challenges that all clients can enjoy. Access to and participation in sport provides an opportunity to experience social inclusion and promote health, confidence and teamwork.
“I think this event is so popular because it combines exercise, teamwork, competitiveness and fun, and is something that people of all abilities can get involved in. This has such a positive and inclusive impact on everyone who takes part,” Mr Crothers said.
Mr Crothers said this year’s event introduced a new sponsor: Joblife Employment. Joblife Employment is a disability employment service and is half owned by Life Without Barriers.
“We are delighted to see Joblife come on board this year with a sponsorship. Employment consultant, Zoey Heather, will be on hand to present a new trophy and prize to the winning team.”
The crowd favourite, tug-o-war, has all participants, staff, friends and even parents up on their feet and joining in the effort to be the team to get the other side over the line. It is definitely the highlight of the day with everyone enjoying the rewards of teamwork, friendship and good natured competitiveness.
The Sports Challenge Day is Life Without Barriers Rocherlea’s showcase event to celebrate the International Day of People with a Disability, with the official day being Tuesday December 3.
