Disability employment services provider Joblife Employment – a joint venture between disability services expert Life Without Barriers and employment and training provider Angus Knight – is pleased to announce the appointment of Professor Peter Shergold AC as Chair of the Board (pictured here with Joblife CEO Anthony Parsons).
Joblife Employment Board Member and Former Disability Discrimination Commissioner, Graeme Innes, welcomed Professor Shergold’s appointment.
Mr Innes said, “We are delighted that Peter Shergold has decided to join us as Chair of the Board. He is a leading advocate for social change and an expert in policy with a distinguished career in the Australian Public Service, and considerable experience across the not-for-profit and private sectors.
“At Joblife, our unwavering goal is to improve economic opportunities for people with a disability and foster vibrant communities in which no one is left behind. We will benefit greatly from Peter’s leadership and outstanding credentials as we work towards ensuring people with disabilities can find and thrive in meaningful employment,” he said.
Peter is the Chancellor of Western Sydney University, Coordinator-General of Refugee Resettlement in NSW and the Chair of Opal Aged Care. Previously he had a distinguished career in the Australian Public Service. He was Secretary of the Department of Employment in the early years of Job Network and later served for five years as Secretary of the Department of the Prime Minister and Cabinet.
Joblife Employment CEO, Anthony Parsons, said Professor Shergold’s appointment was a significant win for Joblife.
“I am honoured to be working alongside someone with Peter’s experience and commitment to create better outcomes for job seekers with a disability,” he said.
Professor Shergold said: “I am very excited to join an organisation that has social impact at the heart of its business. People with disabilities, who are keen to work, experience many barriers to employment, and there is a lot that we can do to assist them.
“I look forward to working with the senior team and other Board members representing both Life Without Barriers and Angus Knight to deliver on the vision for Joblife and support the social and economic participation of people with disability,” he said.
Professor Shergold officially begins his role as Board Chair on 22 August 2018.
