Lorreen is an employee of the Shire of Kojonup library, she is an amputee and has lived with disability for majority of her life unassisted. She has had days where she struggles through but always tries to make the best of things.
Our team first met Lorreen at the Disability awareness day celebrations. As the event progressed Kerry our Employment Consultant in WA spoke to her about support she may be entitled to but had not been aware of before.
Kerry explained the Work Assist program and with Loreen physically and mentally struggling in her job that she may be eligible. They arranged an appointment a few weeks later Lorreen was registered with Work Assist.
Kerry helped link Lorreen with her GP for referral for NDIS and mental health support, she liaised with her employer to look at her role. This revealed that Lorreen was lugging around a large heavy metal cart/trolley to cart books and equipment for her job which was not practical or professional.
Following this Joblife arranged a Job Access Workplace Assessment who went out and ultimately designed a custom-built trolley for Lorreen.
She not only uses it for books, she says she takes it to meetings so she can carry her iPad and notebooks with ease. She said it has been an amazing transformation in so many ways.
If you or someone you know could benefit from the Work Assist program Joblife can help.
